Tampa, Fla. – June 21, 2012 – Earlier today, the Tampa Bay Business Journal presented the Pediatric Cancer Foundation (PCF) with the 2012 Judges’ Choice Nonprofit of the Year Award and a generous $2,500 grant from the Community Foundation of Tampa Bay. PCF was also a finalist in the Health and Human Services category.

The Pediatric Cancer Foundation is dedicated to funding research to eliminate childhood cancer.  Its focus is to find less toxic, more targeted therapies by partnering with leading hospitals nationwide. Through PCF’s collaborative research model, the Sunshine Project, it has opened two Phase One clinical trials in six years. The Pediatric Cancer Foundation plans to open two additional trials in the fall.

“We are honored to receive this award.” said Nancy Crane, Executive Director. “We have the utmost respect and admiration for all of the nonprofits that were nominated, and we are fortunate to live in a city where the work of nonprofits is celebrated.”

The annual awards, sponsored by the Tampa Bay Business Journal, aim to honor local nonprofits that are exercising fiscal responsibility and making a difference in the Bay area.
